My favourite 6 restaurants in Canguu

I spent a fair amount of time in Canguu during my nine weeks in Bali, it could be my favourite place in Bali. Its a really nice, beachy, surf town. You will never run out of things to do here from gorgeous cafes and coffee shops, rice terraces, beaches, bars, yoga classes and surfing - the list is endless. I spent 3 seperate trips in Canguu over the nine weeks and couldnt recommend it more. In this blog post I will be doing a quick round up of my favourite places to eat in Canguu, There are also a few blog posts I have wrote coming (or already up depending on when you are reading this) of more in depth and detailed reviews of cafes. I wont be posting these in a specific order just whichever comes to mind first.

1- The Shady Shack
The Shady Shack is located on Jl. Tanah Barak, (which is also home to a few other cafes and restaurants on this list) It is open from 7:30am - 10:30pm and ready to serve you for breakfast, lunch and dinner! The shady Shack is a fully vegetarian restaurant with majority of the dishes also being vegan. If you are a meat eater, dont let this lead you a stray, you really dont want to miss this one.
I ate here for breakfast twice and dinner twice. The Shady Shack is mostly an open air restaurant facing the rice paddies with private tables for 2 people, 4 people and long tables which are perfect for big groups or people who dont mind sharing with strangers - There are a few seats inside in a breakfast bar style with high stools.

2- Motion Cafe
Motion Cafe is located on the main road in Canguu, Pantai Batu Bolong - They are open from 7am to 10pm so they are prepared to provide for you at every meal and snack time all the way up to supper! Motion cafe is usually quite busy but always seems to have space and a table waiting just for you. We came for breakfast and I came back to purchase a little banana loaf for dessert one night. This cafe has meat, eggs, dairy, gluten free, dairy free, everything and anything you can think of they have. It is a fitness and health food based cafe and the portion sizes are big!

3- Give Cafe
Give Cafe can be found on Jl. Pandang Linjong and it is open from 7am to 9pm. Unfortunatly we only came here once but thoroughly enjoyed our meal - the banana milkshake is incredible. Give cafe is the sister cafe of KYND which can be found in Seminyak and I have an in depth review on too! Give is a 100% non-profit cafe this means that all the proceeds go to 'the people & places that need it.' When you order your meal, you are given some tokens and then you get to chose from 3 charities that they have chosen - one for the planet, one for the community/the people of Bali and then one for the animals of Bali. I had the Mie Goreng Super and Ethan had the Club Baguette.
Just like Kynd, Give also has a little section with items you cna purchase such as; books, bottles, cutlery, tops and a few other bits. Ethan surprised me with a new reusable water bottle!

4- I AM Vegan Babe

I AM Vegan Babe is also located on Jl. Tanah Barak, this cafe is open from 7am - 4:30pm so is open for all your breakfast, brunch and lunch needs! I Am Vegan Babe, is exactly what it says it.. Vegan! 100% Plantbased! Once again, dont let this stray you from this gorgeous, cute cafe. Considering that it only opened its doors last year (2018) they have some of the best food I have had. They have the best pancakes I have ever had, you can get a stack of 3 or 5. This is another open air restaurant situated in between the rice paddies, they also have an upstairs seating area so that you can view the rice paddies from above. I cant wait to see this beautiful cafe go further!

5- La Baracca
La Baracca is yet another restaurant located on Jl. Tanah Barak just like the first two on this list! This lovely italian restaurant is open from 12pm to 12am. La Baracca has 3 restaurants over Bali, one in Seminyak, one in Canguu and one in Uluwatu. We first came to this restaurant in Seminyak, then we were whilst there saw that they also had a restaurant in Canguu. Since we loved it so much we went when we first went to Canguu and then again when we came back. La Baracca is so good, they have starters, pizza, pasta and desserts. The restaurant gives you a bread platter and a balsamic vinegar dip to start while youre deciding and waiting on your pizza's to arrive, also at the end of the meal everytime we were offered a complimentary lemoncello shot which was lovely, refreshing and perfect at the end of the meal. The pizza here is some of the best pizza I have had, Its not too thick and doughy so it was easy to finish the whole pizza even after the bread platter. I ordered the vegetarian pizza but with vegan cheese (for no extra charge).

6- Sprout Cafe
Sprout Cafe is situated slightly out of the centre of canguu but still on the main road so is completley accesible - Jl. Raya Semat. It is open from 7am to 6pm. This is the first place I ate, me and my friend Abbey (who I met on my Teacher Training) stumbled across Sprout when we first got to Canguu. We ate here twice, once for lunch and then once again for breakfast. Sprout is a nice cafe that has outside and indoor seating. It has options for everybody from the strictest vegan to most flexible eater! As a business they are focused on bringing nutrtitous, healthy and sustainable food. They have their own garden where they produce a lot of their produce. They also have a kids club within their garden which may be worth looking into!

Enjoy!
