Me and Ethan came along to the new restaurant 'School for Scandal' Last night, it is the opening week for the new and improved restaurant which used to the infamous laundrette. We had both wanted to go to the Laundrette, I looked at their menu online to see what vegan options they had or what could possibly be modified to vegan - since I was unsure I decided to send them an email for more information on what specifically could be modified for me. Soon after I received an email back from them stating that the Laundrette would be closing and after shutting for a few weeks while the restaurant goes under refurbishing it would be re-opening its doors with a whole new theme and new menu! They invited us to come along during opening week and trial the new menu.

School for scandal is located on jack rosenthal street just off of first street. I must say that I was really impressed with what they have done, the interior is based around a tattoo theme with a new york kind of twist, just stunning! As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with smiley and welcoming staff. There is a really pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant with the perfect playlist playing in the background with a mixture of songs you have not heard in a while, old classics and current favourites! We ordered some cocktails first whilst looking at the menu, our server was really attentive - when I mentioned my dietary needs he came back a few minutes later with a menu that was marked to say which options would be suitable for me or could be modified.

For starters, I had the tandoori tofu and Ethan has the tempura prawns. Both of the dishes were perfectly presented and came out promptly after ordering. I was really impressed with my starter - there was a really good amount of tofu in each bite, pomegranate seeds mixed in and mixed veggies in a little wrap. Ethans prawns came with a dipping sauce and a blob of wasabi on the sauce, generally he isn't much a condiment or sauce guy but this sauce was apparently really good (I think it was terriyaki sauce)

For mains we both decided to go for a pizza, I had the 'Rosso' without cheese and Ethan had 'Diavola', we also ordered these with a side of skinny fries. I have found that in a lot of restaurants if I were to ask for pizza without cheese you get looked at funny and then when it comes it is lacking something, it was the complete opposite here! I loved every bite, packed full of flavour with the toppings spread perfectly so that you got a bit of everything each time you had some.
For dessert we shared some dairy-free vanilla ice cream, this was some of the best I have had - really creamy!

I want to talk about the set out of the menu for a moment, the cocktail menu was really impressive with a nice theme and some funny cocktail names. Between 5-7pm there is a section within the menu called 'Detention'. In the detention section there are a number of cocktails suitable for anyone and they are only £5 during detention. There is also a section within the cocktail menu that is inspired by your favourite films such as 'American pie' and 'The breakfast club'. I want to add that I ordered a cocktail called 'rasberri flossi' which is served with candyfloss on top, this is originally created with a white chocolate liqueur, our server checked with the bar staff if this liqueur actually contained dairy for me, when he came back he told me that they can modify this me to make it suitable.

Overall we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience here, I cant wait to come back. I would like to see at least one more vegan option on the main section of the food menu or a vegetarian option which could be then modified to be vegan, I feel that this would give the restaurant that extra little something.
