I recently took a trip to London to see my friend Karina, whilst I was here we had a day where we went to all the best shopping places and planned in a trip to BY Chloe in Covent Garden. I have known about By Chloe for a while now and have heard all about their restaurants in New York and Los Angeles. It is a completely vegan and plant based restaurant that acts as a up-scale fast food restaurant, you order your food at the counter and are given a buzzer that you take to your table and once your food is ready it vibrates for you to go and retrieve your food from the counter.
The menu is behind the counter, with everything you could ever imagine. They even have a special section which are based around London for example they have fish and chips. The restaurant seats around 70 people and can get very busy, luckily when we went it was busy but there were plenty of seats available for us to choose from. Since it is a fast food style of restaurant I don't think that you are able to book or reserve tables but I would suggest going along anyway as they do also have a take out option and if you were desperate to sit in it would definitely be worth the wait.
The interior is lovely, with black hard furniture, neon signs, plants and swinging chairs by the windows it is everything you could ever wish for. Not only is a vegan restaurant they also have plenty of gluten free options. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sundays until around 4pm, We came midweek so unfortunately I was not able to get the pancakes but that's not a problem considering the amount of other options available! They have Salads, Pasta dishes, Burgers and Sandwiches, Soups Sides and Specials that are separate from the London themed specials.
There is also a pre-prepared to go section with boxed salads and sandwiches. Next to this there is another section built into the shelves with bits of Merchandise and specific dog treats for you to take home for your pooch.
At the counter they have a whole section full of baked goods from cupcakes to cakes to brownies to cookies to pastries, the list is endless. They also have ice creams known as push pops which looked delicious and I will definitely be getting one next time. The menu is clearly labelled for a whole bunch of different allergens such as Gluten, Nuts, Soya and Sesame. By Chloe has an extensive range of drink options to choose from as well including; Juices, Smoothies, Coffees and teas. As I am re-reading over the menu so many things are popping out to me that I cant wait to try next time such as the peanut butter hot cocoa, the pancakes (as mentioned earlier) the London special of Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Pesto Meatball to name a few.
Where your cutlery is there are sauce dispensers, which if I remember correctly is a beet ketchup and a chipotle sauce but I could be mistaken, either way both of these sauces were fantastic.
So, to the main event, I had the Mac and Cheese with a side of sweet potato fries and a soy latte, Karina had the Avocado toast and regular fries. Anyone who knows me personally especially my Mum and Step Dad will remember my macaroni cheese phase, I was obsessed! Macaroni cheese out of the tin on its own or with toast was a regular occurrence multiple times a week, I was never without, whenever the option was there I was having Macaroni Cheese. Since going Vegan I wouldn't say that I have missed cheese but if I was to got to a restaurant and they had vegan Mac and Cheese on the menu I would go for it straight away! So far I have had a few mac and cheese but not ONE even scratches the surface of how amazing this one is. It is topped with breadcrumbs and the perfect amount of sauce for it to not be dry or too saucey. I got the large portion as I wanted it as a full meal and was only able to finish half which is not like me, I have a strict clean plates policy as I hate the thought of wasting food. The sweet potato fries I got were perfect as well, the right amount of crispy with a soft centre. Karinas Avocado toast was topped with Radish and Chilli Flakes, the avocado was spread right to the corners and the toast was nice, thick slices of fresh bread.
We both got lids for our containers and took our leftovers home, I had half of my Macaroni Cheese left and we both had half a portion of the fries left, we also took our sauces home by placing them in the containers, we didn't have a lid for these but somehow managed to get them back to Karinas flat without spillages (Without the worry of it happening either.)
Looking at By Chloes FAQ section on there website all of there takeout containers are compostable and recyclable which is an extra little perk. Everything is cooked fresh in house on the day which is another thing that makes this restaurant stand out.
Overall, I absolutely loved my visit to By Chloe and can not wait to come back next year. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone, they cater for everyone, covering all bases for people with allergies and even options for the biggest of carnivores in your life.
